A great model portfolio opens doors. Whether you’re just starting out or refreshing your look, your portfolio needs to tell the right story — and quickly. In this post, I’ll walk you through what to include in a professional model portfolio, especially if you’re just beginning your journey.
Before agents, brands or casting directors meet you — they meet your images. A strong model portfolio shows your range, personality, and professionalism. It also signals that you’re serious about your career.
If you’re unsure how to get started, you’re not alone. Most aspiring models I work with in Swansea want guidance on exactly what to include.
Here’s what I recommend for beginners or those updating their model portfolio:
Natural light, minimal makeup, clean expression. Your face, your features — clearly and professionally photographed.
Agencies want to see your proportions. Keep it simple: plain clothing, natural pose, good posture.
Include at least 3–5 images that show range — commercial, editorial, fashion-forward, or beauty depending on your interests.
Clean, no retouching. Front, side, back. These give a raw, authentic view of your look and are often required by agencies.
A little spark of you — your smile, confidence, edge. Something memorable.
6–10 strong images are far more valuable than a dozen average ones. You want to show confidence, professionalism, and potential — not filler.
Work with a photographer who understands the industry. Your images are an investment.
Don’t over-edit. Agents and brands want to see the real you.
Plan your outfits. Keep it neutral and form-fitting to avoid distractions.
I work with aspiring models across South Wales to create portfolios that feel professional, modern, and versatile — whether it’s your first shoot or you’re rebranding your image.
