My sessions are guided, but never over-directed. We work with small changes in expression, posture and light to find photographs that feel natural while still carrying presence.

I have photographed child actors and young performers for more than 20 years, including regular headshot work for Beverly Thomas Acting Agency in Swansea and photographs created for young performers' Spotlight profiles.
Because children and teenagers can change quickly, their headshots need to remain current, recognisable and appropriate to their age. Sessions are relaxed and guided, with a parent, guardian or responsible adult present.

A casting photograph has a job to do.
It needs to communicate quickly. Your current appearance, your presence and enough emotional information for someone to begin imagining where you might fit.
That doesn't require exaggerated intensity or a catalogue of characters. Often the most useful differences are subtle: a change in the eyes, a release of tension or a fraction more warmth in an expression.

Alongside photography, I work as a freelance BBC & ITV Lighting Director. That experience shapes the way I photograph people. Light changes facial structure, expression and perception, sometimes through remarkably small adjustments. I use it to support the individual rather than impose the same lighting formula on every face.

That's normal. You don't have to arrive camera-ready.
Being an actor doesn't necessarily make being photographed easy. A headshot session is very different from performing a scene. My job is to create the conditions, give clear direction and notice the small changes that work. You can concentrate on being present rather than wondering what you should be doing.

What should I wear for my actor headshots?
Keep the emphasis on you. Simple clothing generally works best, avoiding anything that dominates the face. We can discuss suitable options before the session so you don't need to make those decisions alone.
Do I need to know how to pose?
No. I guide you throughout. Actor headshots are less about holding poses and more about small changes in posture, gaze and expression.
