A headshot that works
A strong actor headshot should be recognisable, believable and immediately useful. It should give agents and casting professionals a clear sense of the person they may be bringing into the room.
My sessions are guided, but never over-directed. We work with small changes in expression, posture and light to find photographs that feel natural while still carrying presence.
Selected actor portraits
Different faces need different direction. The objective isn't to manufacture a look — it's to find the version that reads truthfully.
Client words
“Working with Chris was a great experience. He’s personable and professional, and he creates a relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy to feel comfortable in front of the camera. The results were fantastic, and the turnaround was impressively quick. Highly recommend.”
Child Actors & Young Performers
I have photographed child actors and young performers for more than 20 years, including regular headshot work for Beverly Thomas Acting Agency in Swansea and photographs created for young performers' Spotlight profiles.
Because children and teenagers can change quickly, their headshots need to remain current, recognisable and appropriate to their age. Sessions are relaxed and guided, with a parent, guardian or responsible adult present.

It needs to communicate quickly. Your current appearance, your presence and enough emotional information for someone to begin imagining where you might fit.
That doesn't require exaggerated intensity or a catalogue of characters. Often the most useful differences are subtle: a change in the eyes, a release of tension or a fraction more warmth in an expression.
The session
I guide the session from beginning to end. You don't need a collection of practised expressions or to know what to do with your face.
Your current casting direction, how the images will be used and what your existing portfolio may be missing.
Small changes rather than fixed poses. The objective is variety without losing recognition.
Images can carry different energy while still feeling unmistakably like the same actor.
Carefully finished professional images suitable for casting profiles, agents and your wider professional use.
BBC & ITV Lighting Director
Alongside photography, I work as a freelance BBC & ITV Lighting Director. That experience shapes the way I photograph people. Light changes facial structure, expression and perception, sometimes through remarkably small adjustments. I use it to support the individual rather than impose the same lighting formula on every face.

Not comfortable on camera?
Being an actor doesn't necessarily make being photographed easy. A headshot session is very different from performing a scene. My job is to create the conditions, give clear direction and notice the small changes that work. You can concentrate on being present rather than wondering what you should be doing.
Useful details
I photograph actors across South Wales, including Cardiff and Swansea. The most appropriate setting depends on the type of images we are creating and the look required from your session.
Keep the emphasis on you. Simple clothing generally works best, avoiding anything that dominates the face. We can discuss suitable options before the session so you don't need to make those decisions alone.
No. I guide you throughout. Actor headshots are less about holding poses and more about small changes in posture, gaze and expression.
Essential is suited to a focused update. Professional gives us more room for variation and is the option I would consider when you want a stronger range. Comprehensive provides the greatest scope for developing a broader set of images.
Yes. I work with actors and performers throughout South Wales, including Cardiff and Swansea.
Absolutely. If you're unsure which session is appropriate, tell me where you are in your career and what you need from the photographs. We can establish the right approach before you commit.
